Why should I publish with eScholarship?

What is the cost of these services?

eScholarship's publishing services are provided free of charge to the University of California academic community. We do not, however, provide content-related services such as copy-editing, proofreading, and page composition.

Will I retain copyright to material published in eScholarship?

Absolutely. Copyright for all content published on eScholarship is retained by the author. Learn more.

How can I publish supporting documents or files?

After you have submitted your primary document through our publication process, you will see a confirmation screen that will offer you the option to upload associated files in a variety of formats. Please confirm that you possess the appropriate rights to any supporting files prior to upload.

Can someone else post my work for me?

Yes, you may allow another person to submit work on your behalf simply by sharing your login/password information.

Can I scan paper articles as PDFs and post in eScholarship?

Yes, you can do so either by scanning the document as an image or with OCR (optical character recognition). If you scan as an image, the full text of the document will not be searchable in eScholarship. Only the metadata keywords supplied by the author during the submission process will be searchable. If you choose OCR, you will most likely need to copy edit the final manuscript thoroughly. Learn more about generating PDFs.

Can I publish a paper in a language other than English?

Yes, eScholarship is able to publish work in languages other than English. However, non-Latin alphabet text will be searchable only via metadata keywords supplied by the author during the submission process.

How do I search for publications within eScholarship?

What is “My Items”?

“My Items” allows you to save a list of chosen documents for the length of one session. (The session expires when you close your browser window.)

You can email your items or share them using a variety of Web 2.0 technologies available through the "share" link located near the top of the "My Items" page. Learn more.

Is there someone on my campus who can help me?

Yes, each campus has an eScholarship liaison who can assist with the eScholarship publishing process. Contact your liaison.
